Another Multipurpose Road Maintenance Vehicle for UN

05 February, 2014

“AutoKrAZ” has built another multipurpose special vehicle KrAZ-63221to the specifications of the contract with UN signed at the end of 2012. It should be mentioned that “AutoKrAZ” entered into contract with UN to supply 8 multipurpose road maintenance vehicles in the past year. Ukrainian vehicles purchased by UN were delivered to the Ministry of Public Works of Afghanistan. Vehicles were purchased and supplied by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) as part of its two disaster management and preparedness projects funded by the government of Japan.

The road maintenance vehicle is based on the KrAZ-63221 6x6 off road truck provided with the YaMZ-238ДЕ2 engine (330 hp), the 9JS150ТА transmission and the MFZ 430 single disk clutch.

The AWD KrAZ vehicles is provided with sweeping equipment made by KARMERCILER (Turkey), leading manufacturer of road maintenance equipment.

The KAT/RSW6 vacuum sweeping equipment (KATMERCILER) uses hydraulic power from an auxiliary engine delivering 85 kW, 6 cub.m. hopper and 1500 l water tank. Additionally it is provided with 3,2 m wide Kalnik snow plough by RASCO that uses hydraulic power from chassis engine. Snow plough designed to be easily removed and attached allows for all year round use of this vehicle:   for snow clearing on winter and for sweeping in summer. Other features are air conditioner and ABS.

Previously supplied KrAZ road maintenance trucks are used for snow removal and cleaning of main throughway, tunnel Salang and remote province of Ghor. The KrAZ-63221 multipurpose truck is being prepared for delivery and will join soon the fleet of road maintenance vehicles.

It is important to note that “AutoKrAZ” is an official registered supplier of both civil and military vehicles for UN. Previously KrAZ trucks have been repeatedly supplied for needs of UN peace-keeping missions in various trouble spots. The main reason for opting for KrAZ trucks was their trouble-free operation, unique cross-country ability and durability.

Mr.Mohammad Daim Kakar, Director General, Afghanistan Natural Disaster Management Authority, in a ceremony in Kabul where Najibullah Aoudjan, Minister of Public Works, has been handed over the snow clearance vehicles, gave a high praise to Ukrainian vehicles. He said:” Ukrainian vehicles will help save many lives that are lost each year due to harsh winters” (source: site of UNOPS: www.unops.org).
